The developers behind the upcoming MMORPG AION 2 have shared new details regarding the game’s highly anticipated global release, which is currently scheduled for September 2026. The latest update from NC highlights how the team plans to handle early access servers, cross-server matchmaking, Abyss PvP, the economy, and future character transfers.
Early Access and Server Waves
The initial wave of servers will launch alongside the early access period, which will be restricted to players who purchase Founder’s Packs. Once the game officially launches, these servers will open up to the general player base, provided they have not reached capacity. Simultaneously, developers will roll out a second wave of brand-new servers to accommodate the influx of new players.
Cross-Server Matchmaking and Abyss PvP
Group matchmaking for PvE dungeons will be shared across all servers within the same geographical region, allowing early access players and standard launch players to queue together. However, matchmaking for PvP activities, such as the Abyss, will remain separated for a time. The developers will merge these PvP brackets only after server progression and character power levels become comparable.
Local and Cross-Server Markets
AION 2 will utilize both local and cross-server auction houses. At launch, players can access the local market to trade with others on their specific server using Kinah. The cross-server marketplace will be unlocked at a later date, once server economies and progression phases align.
Character Transfers and Social Connectivity
Following the early access and official launch phases, the development team will assess server populations to prepare a dedicated character transfer service. While details on this service will be shared in a future update, players on different servers will still be able to add each other to their friends lists and form groups for dungeon runs.
