A True MMORPG Sequel to the 2013 Classic
Developer XL Games and publisher Kakao Games have officially announced ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom, a new PC MMORPG targeting a 2027 release window.
This project is entirely distinct from ArcheAge Chronicles, the title previously known as ArcheAge 2. While Chronicles pivoted toward a console-first, action/adventure MMO-lite model centered on small-scale co-op, ArcheAge S is designed as a modernized, direct successor to the original 2013 MMORPG. The original title was recognized for combining sandbox and themepark design elements, featuring both small and large-scale PvP and PvE content.
Leadership and Project Details
Development on ArcheAge S is led by project director Kim Kyung-tae, who served as the lead game designer and producer on the original ArcheAge. The vision for the new title centers on updating the original design philosophy for modern audiences.
Siwoo Lee, Co-CEO of Kakao Games, stated that ArcheAge S aims to deliver a fresh experience while maintaining the core appeal that defined the IP globally. XL Games CEO Kwan-ho Choi added that the studio is working to preserve the identity of the original game while preparing for a worldwide release.
Neither developer nor publisher has released a video trailer for ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom yet, though the title remains scheduled for launch on PC in 2027.
